Timber believes EFL Cup glory can propel Arsenal to more success

Arsenal defender Jurrien Timber believes that lifting the EFL Cup could act as a springboard for the Gunners to achieve even more this season.
Mikel Arteta’s side are just 90 minutes away from ending a six-year wait for a major trophy after defeating Chelsea at the Emirates on Tuesday to secure a place in next month’s final.
Arsenal are also six points clear at the top of the Premier League and have advanced to the Champions League last 16 after an unblemished group stage. They will face third-tier Wigan in the FA Cup fourth round next Sunday.
“We don’t have anything yet, but we’ve put ourselves in an amazing position to win,” Timber said when asked if success in the League Cup could motivate the team further.
“The Carabao (EFL) Cup final is coming early, so maybe that could be a boost for us as motivation towards the other competitions as well. It’s not always easy to play your best, but this team finds a way to win no matter what. We did it away at Chelsea, which is never easy, and then at home as well. It’s very deserved. You could see how relieved and happy everyone was going to Wembley. Hopefully, there are more celebrations to come.”
Kai Havertz, coming off the bench, sealed Arsenal’s place in the final with a stoppage-time goal against his former club Chelsea. The midfielder has recently returned from nearly a year out due to hamstring and knee operations, scoring twice in his last three appearances.
“Kai’s presence in the team makes a big difference, both on and off the pitch,” Timber added. “Everyone can see his qualities, and we were all so happy for him. He’s a fun character — not quiet, and everyone likes him. When he’s not there, you notice it, so we’re glad he’s back. I hope he enjoys this moment, and there are many more like this for him.”
Arsenal’s next fixture is a Premier League home game against Sunderland on Saturday. A win could extend their lead over Manchester City to nine points ahead of Pep Guardiola’s men traveling to defending champions Liverpool the following day.
