Thunder keep rolling, Spurs surge to historic start in early NBA season action

Oklahoma City Thunder 127, Washington Wizards 108
Reigning NBA MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander delivered another commanding performance as the defending champion Oklahoma City Thunder remained unbeaten, cruising past the Washington Wizards 127–108 on Thursday for their sixth straight win to open the season.
Gilgeous-Alexander tallied 31 points, seven assists, and three rebounds in just three quarters before sitting out the final period. The Thunder, who led 59–49 at halftime, never trailed in the second half and capitalized on 23 Wizards turnovers, converting them into 26 points.
Isaiah Joe and Ajay Mitchell provided a spark off the bench with 20 points each, while Joe impressed in his season debut after missing the first five games with a bruised knee.
“He hit the ground running,” Thunder coach Mark Daigneault said.
“My teammates find me when I’m open — the rest, I just have to do my job and make shots,” Joe added.
Oklahoma City continues to roll despite the absence of Chet Holmgren and Jalen Williams, and amid emotional news that 20-year-old guard Nikola Topic is undergoing treatment for testicular cancer.
Milwaukee Bucks 120, Golden State Warriors 110
The Milwaukee Bucks overcame the absence of Giannis Antetokounmpo to hand the Golden State Warriors their third loss of the season, 120–110, behind a breakout performance from Ryan Rollins.
Rollins, facing his former team, erupted for a career-high 32 points, including a dagger step-back three-pointer with 24.8 seconds remaining to seal the win.
Stephen Curry led the Warriors with 27 points and Jonathan Kuminga added 24, but Golden State’s 22 turnovers proved costly.
Antetokounmpo, who had been averaging 36.3 points per game through four contests, was a late scratch with a sore left knee.
The back-and-forth game featured 16 lead changes before the Bucks surged ahead in the fourth quarter, outscoring the Warriors 33–26.
“Feels great — doesn’t get better,” Rollins said postgame. “I was just playing aggressive, looking for my shot, creating for others and myself.”
