Swieqi United strengthen squad in push for promotion

Swieqi United have strengthened their squad as they look to mount a serious challenge for promotion, an objective they narrowly missed out on last season.
The club have lost the services of captain and goalkeeper Jean Debattista, but moved quickly to bring in Fredrick Tabone from St Andrews. According to reliable sources, Swieqi are also expected to register another goalkeeper in the coming days.

In their recruitment drive, Swieqi have focused on Maltese players with experience not only in the Challenge League but also in the Malta Premier. They have secured the services of Ayrton Attard from Hibernians and Zak Barbara from Valletta, adding further quality and experience to the squad.

Swieqi have also had to cope with departures, including Lenny Mattocks, who has been sidelined due to long-term injury. These setbacks have contributed to the club being particularly active during this transfer window.

Meanwhile, Swieqi have also signed Thiery Axel Antwi directly from Ghana. Head coach Liam Mangion had the opportunity to follow the player closely during a visit to Ghana, which led to the club completing the transfer.

The Challenge League returns this weekend following the Christmas break and the FA Trophy commitments. In the FA Trophy, Swieqi secured a place in the last 16 after eliminating Premier League side Sliema Wanderers.
Swieqi will be back in league action tomorrow when they face Mġarr in a match scheduled to kick off at 2:00pm at the Centenary Stadium.
