The women’s Volleyball Super League reached its climax last weekend, with Swieqi Phoenix Nium officially crowned champions. The title was sealed in style as they secured a 3-1 victory over their closest challengers, Falcons, before being presented with the championship trophy.

Champions Edge Out Falcons in Four-Set Thriller

The highly anticipated clash between Swieqi and Falcons lived up to the hype, starting with a grueling first set. Swieqi Phoenix Nium showed championship composure to edge out the opener 26-24.

Building on that momentum, the champions dominated the second set, cruising to a 25-17 win to take a commanding lead. However, Falcons refused to back down, showing great resilience to claw back into the match by taking the third set 25-22.

Any hopes of a fifth-set decider were quickly extinguished in the fourth. Swieqi shifted into a higher gear, overwhelming Falcons with a clinical 25-10 performance to end the match and start the title celebrations.

Birkirkara Secure Comeback Victory; Paola Relegated

In the weekend’s other fixture, Birkirkara VC overcame a slow start to defeat Paola Executive Security 3-1. Paola initially looked dominant, sweeping the first set 25-13.

Birkirkara responded with impressive grit, sweeping the next three sets—25-22, 25-16, and 25-22—to secure the win. The result confirmed a difficult season for the Paola side, who finished at the bottom of the table with just two points and have been relegated to Division One. They will be replaced next season by Mġarr, who earned promotion as Division One champions.

Final Standings and Youth Results

Despite the “Super League” branding, the elite tier consisted of five competitive teams this season. Swieqi Phoenix Nium finished comfortably at the top with 31 points. The race for second was tight, with Flyers (22 points) narrowly edging out Falcons (21 points) for the runner-up spot. Birkirkara followed in fourth with 14 points.
