Suns upset defending Champions Thunder as Pistons keep rolling in the east

Devin Booker hit a game-winning three-pointer in the final second to lift the Phoenix Suns to a 108-105 comeback victory over NBA champions Oklahoma City Thunder on Sunday.
Phoenix erased an early 18-point deficit, avenging last month’s crushing 138-89 loss to the Thunder in the NBA Cup quarter-finals. Booker finished with 24 points and nine assists, while Dillon Brooks contributed 22 points. Jordan Goodwin added a career-high 26 off the bench.
Brooks had earlier given Phoenix a 105-101 lead with a three over his Canadian teammate and reigning NBA MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander with 36 seconds left. Oklahoma City tied it at 105 with 8.2 seconds remaining before Booker delivered the dagger. Gilgeous-Alexander led the Thunder with 25 points, and Jalen Williams added 23, but the Suns ended Oklahoma City’s four-game winning streak. The Thunder still hold the league’s best record at 30-6.
Meanwhile, the Detroit Pistons extended their lead atop the Eastern Conference with a 114-110 win over the Cleveland Cavaliers, improving to 26-9. Cade Cunningham led Detroit with 27 points, six rebounds, seven assists, two steals, and a block, while Daniss Jenkins stole the spotlight with 25 points, including a flawless seven-for-seven performance in the second quarter featuring six three-pointers.
“My teammates were just finding me, and I was open,” said Jenkins, who is on a two-way contract. “The key to the game is if you’ve got an open shot, you’ve got to shoot.”
Donovan Mitchell led the Cavaliers with 30 points, cutting a 13-point deficit to two late in the game, but Jenkins’ free throws sealed the victory. The Cavs fell to eighth in the Eastern Conference, overtaken by the Miami Heat, who defeated the New Orleans Pelicans 125-106.
The Los Angeles Lakers closed the weekend with a 120-114 home win over the Memphis Grizzlies. Luka Doncic recorded 36 points, nine rebounds, and eight assists, while LeBron James and Jake LaRavia added 26 points each. The Lakers erased a 16-point deficit and pulled away late after the Grizzlies led by one point with 5:29 remaining.
Pacers’ Struggles Continue
The Indiana Pacers matched a franchise record with their 12th straight loss, falling 135-127 to the Orlando Magic. Injuries have plagued the team since Tyrese Haliburton’s season-ending Achilles tear in last year’s NBA Finals. Pascal Siakam led all scorers with 34 points, but Desmond Bane’s 31-point performance powered a decisive 17-0 second-quarter run that secured the Magic’s win.
Nets Exploit Jokic’s Absence
The Brooklyn Nets capitalized on Denver Nuggets star Nikola Jokic being sidelined, defeating the Nuggets 127-115. Denver, despite the returns of Christian Braun and Aaron Gordon, fell in their third game without Jokic. Jamal Murray led the Nuggets with 27 points and a career-high 16 assists, while Michael Porter Jr., facing his former team for the first time since being traded in July, posted 27 points and 11 rebounds.
