Stunning Kostoulas bicycle kick earns Brighton dramatic draw against Bournemouth

Charalampos Kostoulas produced a moment of magic deep into stoppage time as Brighton & Hove Albion snatched a dramatic 1-1 draw with Bournemouth, extending their formidable Premier League home record to just two defeats in 19 matches stretching back to last season (W10, D7).
Still riding the momentum of last weekend’s impressive FA Cup victory at Old Trafford, Brighton started brightly on the south coast. The opening exchanges were lively, with Jack Hinshelwood seeing a deflected effort drift wide before Brajan Gruda forced Đorđe Petrović into a sharp save with a powerful drive.
Bournemouth gradually settled and were rewarded just after the half-hour mark when VAR ruled that Brighton goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen had clipped Amine Adli inside the area. Marcus Tavernier calmly dispatched the resulting penalty, sending the ball low to Verbruggen’s right to claim his fifth league goal of the campaign.
The tempo remained high as the interval approached. Hinshelwood was again denied, this time by an excellent close-range stop from Petrović, while Bournemouth went agonisingly close at the other end when Evanilson struck the post following impressive work from Alex Jiménez.
With Brighton having scored the majority of their league goals after the break this season, the hosts emerged with renewed intent. Kaoru Mitoma curled narrowly wide early in the second half, and sustained pressure followed, although Bournemouth’s defence stood firm as clear chances proved hard to come by.
Substitute Yankuba Minteh provided a late spark, forcing Petrović into another save with a driven effort as Brighton pushed desperately for an equaliser. Their persistence was finally rewarded in stoppage time when Jan Paul van Hecke nodded the ball into the area, allowing Kostoulas to showcase stunning technique with a sublime overhead kick that left Petrović rooted to the spot.
The spectacular finish ensured a deserved share of the spoils for Brighton, who extended their unbeaten run in all competitions to five matches (W2, D3), while Bournemouth were left to rue a late lapse after a disciplined display.
