Steven Muscat and Nordai Desira crowned Blackball European U23 Doubles champions

Steven Muscat and Nordai Desira etched their names into Maltese Blackball history after being crowned Under-23 Doubles champions, securing Malta’s first gold medal at this year’s European Blackball Championships in Ennis, Ireland. The duo delivered a flawless performance in an all-Maltese final, defeating teammates Chaylon Castaldi and Matthias Debono with an emphatic 4–0 victory.
Despite the defeat, Castaldi and Debono still achieved a major milestone of their own, earning Malta’s first silver medal of the tournament and highlighting the nation’s growing strength in youth pool disciplines.
Malta’s medal success continued in the Under-15 Doubles, where Nick Muscat and Denzel Falzon finished as runners-up, claiming silver after a hard-fought loss to Scotland’s impressive pairing of Murray and Seaton. Earlier, the Malta U15 team showcased their dominance with a commanding 8–1 semi-final win over Scotland, booking their place in today’s final against Northern Ireland.
In team action, the Malta U23 side put up a spirited fight but narrowly lost 13–12 to England, while Malta Men’s B were defeated 13–9 by Ireland.
There were more positive results in the singles competition, where Mevrick Zammit produced a superb 6–3 victory over Robbie Warren to earn his place in today’s highly anticipated final against England’s Anthony Monarch.
In the seniors category, Malta B fell 13–7 to Scotland, but Malta A responded strongly with a solid 13–8 win over Wales.
