Houston Rockets center Steven Adams will miss the remainder of the NBA season following surgery on his left ankle, the team confirmed Wednesday.

The 32-year-old New Zealander, selected 12th overall by the Oklahoma City Thunder in the 2013 NBA Draft, suffered the injury on January 18 during a win over the New Orleans Pelicans, landing awkwardly while contesting a shot by Zion Williamson.

“Adams is expected to make a full recovery but will miss the remainder of the 2025-26 season,” the Rockets said in a statement.

Adams had been enjoying a strong campaign after bouncing back from a knee injury that limited him over the previous three seasons. He averaged 5.8 points and 8.6 rebounds across 32 games this year, helping Houston become the NBA’s top-rebounding team with 49 boards per game.

With Adams sidelined, the Rockets will rely on Clint Capela to support star center Alperen Sengun. Houston had already lost guard Fred VanVleet to a torn knee ligament in September.

The Rockets, currently fourth in the Western Conference with a 28-16 record, trail second-placed San Antonio by just two games as they prepare to face the Spurs on Wednesday.
