A wave of record-breaking performances marked the recent Aquatic Sports Association of Malta (ASA) Short Course National Championships for the 2025/26 season, where Sliema Aquatic Sports Club (ASC) emerged as the overall champions. Swimmers from various clubs, notably Neptunes WPSC and Sliema ASC, set five new national records during the competition, which took place from December 19-21, 2025, at the Cottonera Sports Complex.

Individual Records

Several elite swimmers delivered standout performances, etching their names into the Maltese swimming history books:

• Matthew Satariano (Sliema ASC) set a new national record in the Men’s 400m Medley with a time of 4:20.56.
• Mya Azzopardi (Neptunes WPSC), returning from training in the US, broke the Women’s 100m Freestyle national record, clocking an impressive 56.20 seconds and confirming her consistency at the senior level.
• Sasha Gatt (Sliema ASC) established a new benchmark in the Women’s 400m Freestyle with a time of 4:10.92, adding another milestone to her career.
• Julienne Woods (Neptunes WPSC) shattered the longest-standing individual national record in the Women’s 200m Backstroke, with a time of 2:22.02.

Relay Dominance

The Neptunes WPSC women’s relay teams were dominant throughout the championships, culminating in a historic team effort in the 4x50m Medley Relay. The quartet of Madeleine Cassar, Julienne Woods, Michela Portelli, and Mya Azzopardi became the first Maltese team to break the two-minute barrier in the event, setting a new national record of 1:59.23.
