Slavia Prague Hold Atalanta to Hard-Fought Goalless Draw

Resilient Slavia Prague Hold Atalanta to Goalless Draw in Bergamo
Slavia Prague battled to a hard-earned goalless draw against Atalanta in the UEFA Champions League (UCL), securing just their second result without defeat in 11 visits to Italy.
The game began in front of a vibrant “Light My Fire” tifo, and both sides looked eager to ignite the contest early. Tomáš Chory flashed a dangerous ball across the Atalanta goal, while Davide Zappacosta’s shot was blocked at the other end as the hosts began to turn up the pressure.
A spell of Atalanta dominance followed, but they found Jakub Markovic in inspired form. The Slavia goalkeeper denied Odilon Kossounou in a one-on-one, pushed away Charles De Ketelaere’s fierce drive, and was helped by Tomáš Vlček, who threw himself in front of Nikola Krstović’s effort.
Despite Atalanta’s threat, Slavia continued to show attacking ambition. Yet Krstović spurned two excellent chances before the interval, firing one straight at Markovic and sending the next over the bar. Ademola Lookman saw two efforts deflected behind, while De Ketelaere and Ederson both curled shots narrowly wide as the hosts searched for a breakthrough.
At the other end, Slavia nearly stunned the home crowd when David Moses forced Marco Carnesecchi into a fine save late in the first half, hinting that the visitors were far from content to merely defend.
After the break, Slavia grew in confidence. Lukáš Provod tested Carnesecchi with a powerful free-kick, before Vasil Kušej sent a bold volley just wide. Their momentum was briefly halted when Youssoupha Mbodji limped off injured around the hour mark.
Atalanta boss Ivan Jurić turned to his bench, introducing Kamaldeen Sulemana, who injected pace but lacked composure—overrunning the ball on one breakaway before being denied by Markovic and blocked by Vlček moments later.
Slavia remained dangerous on the counter, with Provod’s deflected strike and Michal Sadílek’s close-range effort both threatening the home goal. As frustration grew for La Dea, De Ketelaere struggled to find space, and Gianluca Scamacca squandered Atalanta’s best late chance—heading over from close range before seeing another fierce attempt brilliantly saved by Markovic.
The final whistle confirmed a third consecutive draw for both sides across all competitions. Slavia’s disciplined performance earned them a valuable second point from three UCL matches, while Atalanta’s four points keep them narrowly ahead in the group standings.
