Sirens and Żurrieq Secure Crucial Victories in BOV Challenge League

Sirens kept their promotion hopes alive with a dominant 3-0 victory over St. Andrews on Saturday, while Żurrieq relied on a
Gabriel Aquilina brace to overcome Mtarfa at the Victor Tedesco Stadium.
The BOV Challenge League action this weekend saw key movements in both the Promotion and Play-Out rounds, as teams battle for positioning in the second phase of the season.
Sirens Outclass St. Andrews
In the Promotion Round fixture, Sirens delivered a clinical performance to dismantle St. Andrews. The breakthrough came in the 24th minute when
Joel Etornam Quist found the back of the net to give Sirens a deserved lead.
St. Andrews struggled to find a response, and their task became even steeper early in the second half. Just four minutes after the restart, Sirens were awarded a penalty, which
Trezeguet Zammit coolly converted to double the advantage. The scoring was completed three minutes from time when a defensive mishap led to an own goal, sealing a comprehensive 3-0 win for the St. Paul’s Bay side. The result lifts Sirens to 29 points, keeping them firmly in the hunt for a top-three spot.
Aquilina Double Sinks Mtarfa
In the Play-Out Round, Żurrieq boosted their survival hopes with a 2-0 win over struggling Mtarfa. The star of the match was
Gabriel Aquilina, who opened the scoring after just 13 minutes.
Mtarfa, who currently sit at the bottom of the standings with a significant goal difference deficit, were unable to breach the Żurrieq defense.
Aquilina eventually made the points safe in the 77th minute, completing his brace and ensuring Żurrieq moved further away from the immediate relegation threat.
