Mohamed Salah has been included in Liverpool’s squad for Saturday’s Premier League home match against Brighton, according to multiple British media reports.

The BBC and Sky Sports report that the decision was taken after discussions with head coach Arne Slot, who had previously stressed that he would make the final call on whether to recall the Egyptian forward. Slot is understood to have acted in what he believes are the best interests of the club.

The Dutch coach had said he would speak with Salah on Friday morning following the winger’s public comments last weekend, which cast doubt over his future at Anfield. Salah was subsequently left out of the squad for Liverpool’s midweek Champions League victory away to Inter Milan.

After being named on the bench for last weekend’s 3-3 draw at Leeds — the third consecutive match he failed to start — Salah accused Liverpool of “throwing him under the bus.” He also claimed he had no relationship with Slot when speaking to reporters at Elland Road.

Liverpool went on to secure a 1-0 win over Inter Milan on Tuesday, while the 33-year-old posted a photo on social media showing himself training alone in the gym at the club’s training ground.

“I will have a conversation with Mo this morning — the outcome of that conversation determines how things will look tomorrow,” Slot said at his pre-match press conference.

“I think the next time I speak about Mo should be with him and not in here. You can keep trying, but there is not much more to say about it.

“After the Sunderland game there were a lot of conversations between his representatives and ours, between him and me.”

Slot declined to elaborate further but added: “I have no reason not wanting him to stay, and that is a little bit of an answer to your question.”

Salah, who signed a new two-year contract in April that made him one of the Premier League’s highest-paid players, is set to join Egypt’s squad for the Africa Cup of Nations after the Brighton match. The duration of his absence will depend on how far Egypt progress in the tournament, which concludes with the final in Morocco on January 18.

The forward is third on Liverpool’s all-time scoring list with 250 goals in 420 appearances and has won two Premier League titles and the Champions League during his time at the club.

Salah scored 29 league goals last season as Liverpool surged to a 20th English league title, but he has managed just four Premier League goals in 13 appearances this campaign.

Liverpool currently sit 10th in the table after a difficult run of form, having won just two of their last 10 league matches. Salah has also been linked with a potential move to the Saudi Pro League.
