Ryan Bugeja triumphs in season-opening Trap Selection Shoot


Ryan Bugeja secured the top spot on the podium this past weekend, claiming victory in the first Trap Selection Shoot of the 2026 season. Held over two days at the Malta National Shooting Ranges, the event brought together the island’s top marksmen for a highly competitive start to the year.
Bugeja entered the final stages after qualifying with a score of 110/125, winning a tense shoot-off to determine his ranking. In the final, he maintained his composure to hit 42/50, edging out Gianluca Chetcuti, who finished in second place with 40/50. Veteran shooter William Chetcuti rounded out the top three with a final score of 33/40.
The qualification round was led by Brian Galea, who posted an impressive 114/125 to enter the finals in the top bib position. However, the final round proved challenging, with the leaderboard shifting as the elimination stages progressed.

Categorized Class Results:
The competition also recognized top performers across three classes based on their qualification scores:
- Class A: Brian Galea took first place (114/125), followed by Ryan Bugeja and James Galea Jr (both on 110/125).
- Class B: Gordon Caruana led the category with 105/125, followed by Johan Xuereb and Christian Schembri (both on 98/125).
- Class C: Joseph Mallia secured the top spot (95/125), with John Marmara (84/125) and Yana Grima (79/125) taking second and third respectively.
The local shooting calendar continues this coming Sunday, January 25, 2026, with the Grazio Vella & Bros Competition, set to take place at the Qormi Clay Shooting Club.
