Ruben Dias: Man City “live for games like this” after emphatic win over Liverpool

Manchester City captain Ruben Dias believes Pep Guardiola’s side are “back to their best” after a commanding 3–0 victory over Liverpool cut the gap to Premier League leaders Arsenal to just four points.
City endured a difficult 2023/24 campaign, finishing 13 points behind Liverpool and ending an eight-year run of silverware under Guardiola. But a series of smart signings over the past two transfer windows has revitalized the squad and reestablished City as serious title contenders.
Guardiola marked a personal milestone in style, celebrating his 1,000th match as a manager with a statement win at the Etihad. Goals from Erling Haaland, Nico González, and Jérémy Doku condemned Liverpool to their fifth defeat in six league games.
“Obviously, we’re very happy for him,” said Dias after the match. “We live for games like this — there’s no higher level than this.”
The Portuguese defender praised his teammates’ unity and commitment:
“The difference is everyone being ready to show up and sacrifice for the guy next to him. I remember before I joined this club, that’s what made them win so much — those small details.”
Reflecting on City’s evolution, Dias added that while the team has undergone change, the club’s winning mentality remains intact.
“People have talked about a rebuild since last season. Of course, there are new faces because some players left, but the quality stays the same — and we keep pushing.”
