Ruben Amorim: Man United prepared for Fiery Leeds clash, anticipating quiet transfer window

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has addressed the media ahead of his side’s Premier League clash with Leeds United.
United enter the fixture with strong recent form against promoted sides, remaining unbeaten in their last 25 league games and winning 22 of those. They have also lost just once in their last 19 Premier League encounters with Leeds, giving Amorim plenty of confidence ahead of the high-stakes clash.
Amorim ready for intense rivalry
Reflecting on the heated rivalry between the two sides—rooted by many in the historic War of the Roses—Amorim admitted it would be a unique and demanding experience.
“I’ve never experienced this one. Different environment, different culture, but the noise is going to be big,” he said. “It’s hard to compare different cultures, different derbies, histories. When you play for Manchester United, you need to be ready for everything. This league is the best in the world; every game is unpredictable, and you never know what’s going to happen at the end of the week.”
January transfer window expected to be quiet
With the transfer window now open, Amorim confirmed that Manchester United do not anticipate significant changes to the squad.
“The transfer window is not going to change; we have no conversations about altering the squad,” he explained. “There is a process, an idea—that will continue. We are near Champions League spots, but there are also eight teams chasing us behind, so our focus is on the next game.”
Asked if any players had requested to leave, Amorim added: “No, none of them. I don’t expect anyone to come to me to ask.”
Academy stars must be ready
Amorim also touched on the role of academy players, following his criticism last month of those he felt weren’t ready for the first team. He stressed the need for preparation and balance in giving young players opportunities.
“We will look at everything, but they need to be prepared,” he said. “It’s impossible to stretch a squad we don’t have. I’ll pick the players ready to cope and read the game to give us the best chance to win. They have to handle the atmosphere—playing in a hostile environment is tough, even for experienced players. They need to experience it, learn from it, and be ready.”
Manchester United currently sit sixth in the Premier League table, with Amorim keen to maintain momentum as they push for a top-four finish.
