Chelsea head coach Liam Rosenior has described Saturday’s London derby against West Ham as the Blues’ biggest game of the season, saying it will reveal “so much” about his squad.

Rosenior, who replaced Enzo Maresca earlier this month, has enjoyed a strong start at Stamford Bridge, winning his first four matches across all competitions. Chelsea currently sit fifth in the Premier League, just one point behind fourth-placed Manchester United.

The Blues extended Rosenior’s impressive run on Wednesday by securing a Champions League round of 16 spot with a dramatic comeback victory over Napoli. Chelsea also have an opportunity to reach the League Cup final when they face Arsenal in the semi-final second leg on Tuesday, needing to overturn a 3-2 deficit.

Before that fixture, Rosenior’s team will take on a resurgent West Ham side, who remain in the relegation zone despite consecutive wins.

“For me tomorrow is the biggest game of the season,” Rosenior told reporters on Friday. “It’s very simple: I’m going to find out so much. We’re in a good place. If you want to be a consistent winning team, these are the games where you have to step forward and not be complacent after a win in Italy, coming back three days later.

“I want to see the consistency levels of the group. That’s why for me this is a massive marker of where we really are.”

Rosenior also praised West Ham manager Nuno Espirito Santo, who took over at the London Stadium earlier this season.

“I’m not surprised Nuno has put his stamp on the team,” he said. “All of his sides are very well organised without the ball, whether that’s a 4-4-2 shape or a 5-4-1. And they’ve always been very strong in transition moments.”
