Tottenham manager Thomas Frank has spoken ahead of this weekend’s Premier League clash with Manchester City, their first meeting since Tottenham’s 2-0 victory at the Etihad Stadium in August.

The London side face a tough challenge at home, having earned fewer points at their ground this season than all but bottom-of-the-table Wolves.

Tottenham Targeted Semenyo
Frank revealed that Spurs made a concerted effort to sign forward Antoine Semenyo, who ultimately joined Manchester City earlier this month in a £65 million deal.

“I can promise that the Lewis family is super committed to this project. They want to do everything,” Frank said. “It was clear, there is no doubt, that the club wanted to sign Semenyo. They did everything they could, and I think that’s a clear signal of the family’s commitment.

“That’s a big signing, financially and in terms of quality. It’s exactly the type of player we’re looking for to improve the squad.”

When asked whether Spurs are now weaker than at the start of the transfer window, Frank admitted: “I think that’s fair. We lost six or seven players—some extremely unlucky, like Lucas and Ben. Of course, the squad is weaker than it was on January 1st.”

A Loss Could Impact Arsenal
Tottenham sit 14th in the league and are out of the title race, but a victory over City could frustrate North London rivals Arsenal, who have dropped points in recent weeks and now hold just a four-point lead at the top.

Asked whether fans might not mind a Spurs loss if it helped Arsenal, Frank said: “I don’t know. Spurs fans will support the team, and I understand the conflict.

“But I have no doubt they’ll be happy if we perform well. Beating City is important for us. It’s all about us, and we—the staff and the players—will do everything we can to deliver a top performance.”
