Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernández has returned to full training and is available for selection for Saturday’s Premier League clash against Manchester United, manager Liam Rosenior confirmed on Thursday, following his recent disciplinary omission.

The 25-year-old Argentina World Cup winner was left out of the squad for the FA Cup quarter-final win over League One side Port Vale, as well as last week’s 3-0 Premier League defeat to Manchester City at Stamford Bridge.

Fernández, who had been captaining the side in the absence of injured skipper Reece James, previously suggested he would reassess his future after the World Cup and spoke about a desire to live in Madrid, comments he later apologised for.

“Enzo has been with the group and has been training very, very well,” Rosenior told reporters. “So it’s business as usual when it comes to selection for the game.

“In terms of his training and application, Enzo has been fantastic.”

Rosenior also gave updates on defenders Trevoh Chalobah and Reece James. Chalobah has not featured since the second leg of Chelsea’s Champions League defeat to Paris Saint-Germain, while James has been sidelined since the loss to Newcastle United in March.

“Trevoh trained today, but not fully — it was a modified session,” Rosenior said. “We’ll assess him, but he’s very, very close. Reece is a bit further away.”

Chelsea currently sit sixth on 48 points, four behind Liverpool in the Champions League places, having won just one of their last five Premier League matches. A victory over third-placed Manchester United would help close the gap in the race for a top-five finish.

“You focus on what you can control, which is our performance,” Rosenior added. “It’s about ensuring the attitude, energy and application are right. I expect a strong performance on Saturday.”
