Ronald Koeman Names Emanuel Emegha in First Netherlands Squad as Weghorst Misses Out

Netherlands manager Ronald Koeman has handed Strasbourg striker Emanuel Emegha his maiden senior call-up, while Ajax forward Wout Weghorst struggles with fitness concerns.
The 22-year-old, who is set to join Chelsea next summer, has impressed in Ligue 1 this season, scoring four goals and providing two assists in just five league appearances. Emegha previously had a breakthrough 2024/25 season with Strasbourg, netting 14 goals and contributing three assists.
Emegha was initially left out of Koeman’s squad after recently recovering from a hamstring injury. The Dutch striker had also been poised to feature for the Netherlands Under-21 team at last summer’s European Championships in Slovakia but was sidelined by injury. In nine U21 appearances, he scored three goals.
Meanwhile, Weghorst remains with the squad, though the KNVB confirmed his fitness will be reassessed ahead of Friday’s potentially decisive World Cup qualifier against Poland.
The Netherlands will conclude their FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign with a home match against Lithuania on Monday, November 17.
