Lamine Yamal will miss Spain’s upcoming matches after undergoing a medical procedure without prior notice, requiring seven to 10 days of rest.

The situation has escalated beyond verbal disagreements between Hansi Flick and Luis de la Fuente, turning into a serious breach of trust between Barcelona and the Spanish national team.

Barcelona, fully aware that Yamal was due to join Spain, subjected him to a radiofrequency treatment for pubic discomfort without informing the RFEF medical staff. The national team only learned of the procedure a few hours before training camp began in Las Rozas.

As a result, the left winger, who had arrived on time for the call-up, has been withdrawn and will miss Spain’s World Cup 2026 qualifiers against Georgia and Turkey.

Statement from the Spanish Football Federation

“The RFEF Medical Services wish to express their surprise and concern after learning at 13:47 on Monday, November 10 — the day the official training camp began — that Lamine Yamal had undergone an invasive radiofrequency procedure that same morning to treat pubic discomfort.

“This procedure was carried out without prior communication to the national team’s medical staff, who only received the full report at 22:40, recommending a rest period of 7 to 10 days.

“Prioritising the player’s health, safety, and well-being, the Royal Spanish Football Federation has decided to release him from the current call-up. We wish him a speedy and full recovery.”
