Masked Polish football hooligans armed with batons attacked two buses carrying Spanish supporters in the middle of the night, Polish police reported on Thursday, ahead of the Europa Conference League clash between Jagiellonia Białystok and Rayo Vallecano.

According to authorities, two cars swerved in front of the coaches transporting Rayo fans and forced them to stop along the S8 motorway near the village of Prosienica in east-central Poland. Moments later, several dozen masked individuals emerged from a nearby wooded area and launched an attack. Police noted that the assailants had cut through a motorway fence to access the area.

“Paramedics at the scene provided assistance to the injured, and three individuals were transported to hospital,” police said in a statement posted on X.

Officers detained seven people in connection with the incident. Seized items included balaclavas, telescopic batons, wooden clubs, and metal-cutting tools.

Rayo Vallecano did not immediately respond to requests for comment. The club’s ultra group, the Bukaneros, also made no reference to the attack on their social media channels. Spanish police said they currently had no information about the incident.

In the Europa Conference League standings, Jagiellonia sit ninth with eight points, while Rayo Vallecano are 12th on seven points through four matches.
