Paris Saint-Germain climbed back to the top of Ligue 1 with an emphatic 4-0 win over Nice, marking their fourth victory in five matches across all competitions.

The Parisian side had already secured an exciting UEFA Champions League quarter-final clash with Liverpool after comfortably overcoming Chelsea over two legs. However, the pressure remained on domestically, as RC Lens briefly moved to the summit following their 5-1 win against Angers on Friday.

PSG started brightly in an end-to-end opening spell, creating their first major chance in the 12th minute. Khvicha Kvaratskhelia unleashed a powerful left-footed effort that was brilliantly saved by Yehvann Diouf. Moments later, he came close again with a similar attempt, but this time the shot took a deflection and drifted just wide of the post.

Yehvann Diouf remained under constant pressure as PSG continued to fire shots at goal, with the goalkeeper producing another fine save to tip Ilya Zabarnyi’s header over the bar midway through the first half.

Despite being on the back foot, Nice looked dangerous on the counter-attack and created two quick chances. Veteran defender Dante saw his header drift narrowly wide, while Elye Wahi was left with a golden opportunity but failed to make proper contact with a cross.

Just as it seemed the teams would head into the break level, VAR intervened to award PSG a penalty after Désiré Doué’s half-volley struck Morgan Sanson’s hand. Nuno Mendes stepped up and calmly slotted the spot-kick into the bottom-right corner to give PSG the lead.

That breakthrough came shortly after Juma Bah had prevented a certain goal, reacting instinctively to divert Khvicha Kvaratskhelia’s effort over the crossbar.

The interval gave Nice an opportunity to regroup and rethink their approach, but any hopes of a comeback — and a first league win since January — were quickly dashed after the restart.

Nuno Mendes surged into the box following a neat one-two with Kvaratskhelia before delivering a perfect pass for Désiré Doué, who fired emphatically into the net

Nice’s evening went from bad to worse just after the hour mark when Youssouf Ndayishimiye was shown a red card for a controversial challenge on Lee Kang-in, and PSG nearly capitalised immediately with a third goal.

Désiré Doué was picked out in plenty of space by Nuno Mendes with an excellent through ball, but his left-footed effort was directed straight at Yehvann Diouf.

PSG continued to dominate possession, pinning Nice deep inside their own half, and eventually sealed the win with two late goals.

Désiré Doué added another by calmly finishing past Diouf, before Warren Zaïre-Emery rounded off the scoring with a simple tap-in after a fortunate rebound fell kindly to him.

The victory sees PSG collect three valuable points and extend their record as the highest-scoring away side in Ligue 1 with 27 goals on the road.

Meanwhile, defeat leaves Nice languishing in 15th place, with their winless run in the league now stretching to seven matches.
