Hannah Green makes history with third straight tournament victory

World number seven Hannah Green has made history by securing her third consecutive tournament victory on Sunday, becoming the first Australian woman to achieve the feat.
The major champion shot a final-round 69 to finish at 16-under-par at the Ladies European Tour co-sanctioned Australian WPGA Championship, winning by four strokes ahead of Germany’s Alexandra Forsterling and South Africa’s Casandra Alexander.
Her latest triumph comes after winning the Australian Open in Adelaide last week, following her seventh LPGA title at the HSBC Women’s World Championship in Singapore.
No Australian woman has ever won three consecutive events on the international stage, not even golfing great Karrie Webb, who claimed 56 career titles including seven majors.
“It feels really amazing. It still hasn’t fully sunk in, but it’s been a really crazy month,” said the 29-year-old at Sanctuary Cove Golf and Country Club on the Gold Coast.
“It’s been about four weeks since I won in Singapore, and it’s been really special to achieve this run of victories here in Australia.”
Green opted to skip two LPGA events in order to compete on home soil.
She started the final round with a two-shot lead and at one stage extended her advantage to six strokes, before back-to-back bogeys reduced the margin to just two.
However, she remained composed on the back nine, reaching the 18th hole with a three-shot cushion before finishing with a closing birdie to seal a commanding victory.
Green will now aim for a fourth consecutive win at the LPGA Aramco Championship in Las Vegas, beginning on April 2.
