Paris Saint-Germain have confirmed that forward Ousmane Dembélé will miss Wednesday’s Champions League trip to Athletic Bilbao due to illness.

The 28-year-old, winner of the 2025 Ballon d’Or, has been unwell since Monday and was deemed unfit to travel for the league phase fixture in Spain.

Dembélé’s absence continues a recent period of disrupted form, during which he has struggled for consistent match fitness. He missed domestic games against Olympique Lyonnais and Le Havre with a calf injury before returning on November 26 in PSG’s 5-3 Champions League win over Tottenham Hotspur, coming on as a substitute for 12 minutes.

He then made brief cameo appearances in a 1-0 defeat to Monaco on November 29 and a 5-0 Ligue 1 victory over Rennes last weekend, playing close to 30 minutes in each match. Against Rennes, Dembélé provided an assist for Gonçalo Ramos in stoppage time, hinting at a gradual return to full sharpness before illness forced him out of Wednesday’s European fixture.

PSG sit second in their 36-team Champions League group with 12 points from five matches, while Athletic Club are 27th with four points.
