Premier League player of the week: Thiaw shines for Newcastle in dominant Everton display

Malick Thiaw’s commanding performance helped Newcastle secure a 4-1 victory over Everton, earning him Premier League Player of the Week.
The German centre-back was a force at both ends, scoring two towering headers in the rout and claiming an impressive 8.8 player rating – the joint-highest of the week alongside Brighton’s Maxim De Cuyper.
Thiaw, however, takes the spotlight for his decisive influence in Newcastle’s outing, which began spectacularly at the Hill Dickinson Stadium. Just 55 seconds into the match, he rose highest to head in the opener, marking the Premier League’s fastest goal of the season so far.
Throughout the game, Thiaw dominated defensively as well, winning seven duels and making five crucial clearances. He later doubled his tally with another header before the hour mark, putting Newcastle firmly in control.
Newcastle now turn their attention to a quick turnaround in the Premier League, hosting Tottenham at St James’ Park on Tuesday night.
