Manchester United are becoming increasingly concerned over Casemiro’s recent dip in form — and a surprising midfield option may be emerging at just the right moment.

The Red Devils have been alerted to the availability of Atalanta midfielder Ederson, after the player’s agent confirmed that a move from Italy could be possible for under €40 million.

This figure is notably lower than the valuation quoted to United last January, which was nearly double. The possibility of a bargain deal has shifted the club’s approach, with United expected to soon explore the full financial details of a potential transfer.

Timing is crucial, as Casemiro’s performances have faltered in recent weeks. In United’s 2-1 victory over Crystal Palace, he was outshone by Palace’s midfielder Adam Wharton.

Wharton remains on United’s long-term radar, though the club acknowledges that he is unlikely to be available before the summer. The same applies to other Premier League targets, such as Elliot Anderson and Carlos Baleba, making Ederson’s potential mid-season availability all the more appealing.

As previously reported by Flashscore, United are in no rush to resolve Casemiro’s contract situation. His current deal expires at the end of the season, and as the squad’s top earner, a renewal on similar terms is unlikely.

While United have not ruled out keeping him beyond this campaign, any new offer would likely involve reduced wages. There is a real possibility Casemiro could leave, as new proposals are expected to surface in January.
