Real Sociedad extended their unbeaten streak to five matches and climbed into LaLiga’s top eight with a 3-1 win over Celta Vigo at the Reale Arena, marking La Real’s first run of three consecutive league victories since March 2024.

The visitors came close to an early shock, as Bryan Zaragoza’s shot was cleared off the line inside the opening 30 seconds.

Rain-soaked conditions in San Sebastián made ball control tricky for both sides, but Sociedad took the lead in the 17th minute when Mikel Oyarzabal curled a precise left-footed strike from distance, his second goal in as many games.

Celta continued to press, and Zaragoza’s goal-bound effort late in the first half highlighted the unpredictable surface, keeping the match tense and exciting. Both defences, however, stood firm, with standout performances from Sociedad’s Duje Caleta-Car and Celta goalkeeper Manu Fernández.

The game took a dramatic turn just before halftime when Caleta-Car was sent off for a studs-up challenge, leaving La Real to play the second half with ten men.

The rain eased at the start of the second half, but Sociedad nearly capitalized on a three-on-two break, only for a puddle to impede Oyarzabal’s run.

As expected, Celta dominated possession against the 10-man hosts, with Borja Iglesias seeing a shot cleared off the line around the hour mark. Zaragoza tested Sociedad goalkeeper Alex Remiro with Celta’s 11th shot, and the visitors eventually equalized when Iglesias pounced on a loose ball to fire into the roof of the net.

Three minutes later, Oyarzabal reclaimed the lead with another long-range strike, marking his eighth goal in 19 league appearances against Celta.

In stoppage time, Alvaro Odriozola was brought down in the area by Marcos Alonso, and Brais Méndez converted the resulting penalty to seal a 3-1 victory. The win lifts Sociedad to eighth, one place behind Celta, but still five points adrift, denying the visitors a chance to climb into the top five.
