Over 200 Napoli Fans Detained in Eindhoven Ahead of PSV Champions League Clash

Dutch police confirmed on Tuesday that more than 200 supporters of Italian club Napoli were arrested ahead of a “high-risk” Champions League match against PSV Eindhoven.
Authorities reported that large groups of Napoli fans engaged in “provocative behaviour” in central Eindhoven on Monday night. To prevent potential clashes with locals, officers detained 230 fans.
The arrested supporters were questioned overnight, fined, and prohibited from attending the match or entering the city centre.
“All arrested supporters with a ticket are not allowed to attend tonight’s match,” police said in a statement.
The fixture has been classified as a “high-risk” encounter, with special security measures, including preventative frisking, in place. Police confirmed they would maintain a strong presence ahead of the 8pm (BST) kick-off and urged fans to act responsibly.
“Let’s work together to ensure that tonight’s game and everything surrounding it proceeds smoothly so everyone can enjoy the football match,” the statement added.
On the field, both clubs aim to improve their Champions League starts. Dutch champions PSV began their campaign with a 3-1 home defeat to Belgium’s Union Saint-Gilloise, followed by a 1-1 draw at Bayer Leverkusen. Napoli, meanwhile, lost 2-0 at Manchester City before securing a 2-1 home win against Sporting Lisbon.
