Nottingham Forest have confirmed the appointment of Sean Dyche as their new head coach, the club announced on Tuesday.

Forest moved quickly to secure Dyche’s services following the immediate dismissal of Ange Postecoglou, who was sacked in the wake of the team’s 3-0 defeat to Chelsea.

The former Everton and Burnley boss — who began his playing career in Forest’s youth ranks — will take charge of the side for Thursday’s Europa League clash against Porto.

Dyche has signed a contract running until the summer of 2027, becoming Forest’s third manager of the season. Postecoglou had replaced Nuno Espírito Santo, who departed after a breakdown in relations with owner Evangelos Marinakis and sporting director Edu Gaspar.

Postecoglou’s tenure lasted just 39 days, during which Forest failed to win any of their eight matches — the shortest permanent managerial spell in Premier League history.

Marinakis had also considered other candidates, including Roberto Mancini, the former Manchester City manager, and Fulham’s Marco Silva, before Dyche emerged as the leading choice.

Dyche has been out of work since leaving Everton in January, ending a two-year spell at Goodison Park. He notably steered the Toffees to Premier League survival in the 2023/24 season, despite a points deduction for financial breaches.

Before his time at Everton, Dyche spent nine and a half years at Burnley, guiding the club to multiple Premier League campaigns and earning widespread respect for his consistency and pragmatic approach.
