After his decisive goal in Newcastle’s League Cup win over Tottenham, Nick Woltemade is already being compared to some of the Magpies’ most celebrated stars.

“I operate differently on the pitch than former Newcastle strikers. I rarely play deep and prefer to have the ball at my feet,” the 23-year-old told Sky Sports, reflecting on his strong start at St. James’ Park.

Woltemade, who joined from Bundesliga side Stuttgart in the summer as Alexander Isak’s replacement, says adapting to English football has been relatively smooth.

“It was very easy for me to settle in at Newcastle. Everyone welcomed me from day one,” he said.
“Having German-speaking teammates like Fabian Schär and Malick Thiaw helped a lot—it made coming to a new country and language much easier.”

Hype Building Around Newcastle’s £69m Signing

With six goals in eleven games, the excitement around Woltemade is steadily growing. After the 2-0 Carabao Cup victory over Spurs, the Telegraph ran: “Newcastle already have a new hero.”

Woltemade’s relentless work rate has impressed fans and teammates alike.

“For 90 minutes, he’s the first to defend and the first to attack. It’s fantastic to play with a striker like Nick,” said teammate Sandro Tonali.

Looking ahead, Newcastle face a struggling West Ham before taking on Athletic Bilbao in the Champions League. If Woltemade keeps up this form, his goal tally is only set to rise.
