NBA suspends Jose Alvarado and Mark Williams after Pelicans–Suns clash

The NBA has issued suspensions to both Jose Alvarado and Mark Williams following their on-court altercation during Saturday night’s game between the New Orleans Pelicans and the Phoenix Suns.
Pelicans guard Alvarado has been handed a two-game suspension, while Suns centre Williams will miss one game. According to the league, the incident occurred after a disputed whistle, when Alvarado confronted Williams and escalated the situation, striking him on the left side of the jaw.
Despite the disruption, Phoenix went on to secure a 123-114 victory over New Orleans.
The suspensions come at a time when both players have been contributing solidly to their respective sides. Alvarado has been averaging 8.3 points, 3.2 assists and 2.7 rebounds per game this season, while Williams has posted averages of 13.1 points, 8.2 rebounds and 1.1 assists.
There will be no immediate rematch between the two, with the Pelicans and Suns not scheduled to meet again until March 6, 2026.
