NBA Roundup: Detroit Pistons Extend Winning Streak to 11 as LeBron James Makes Court Return

LeBron James kicked off his NBA-record 23rd season with the Los Angeles Lakers on Tuesday after missing nearly the first month of the season due to sciatica.
The 40-year-old missed the Lakers’ first 14 games but quickly found his rhythm, finishing with 11 points, 12 assists, and three rebounds. James also reached another milestone, moving past Reggie Miller into sixth place on the NBA’s all-time regular-season three-pointers list with two made treys.
Luka Doncic, who led the Lakers with 37 points, welcomed James back. “It’s been a long time since he played basketball, so I think for the first game back, he looked amazing,” Doncic said. “He’s gonna keep getting his rhythm, and he’s gonna help us a lot.”
Doncic received support from Austin Reaves, who scored 26 points, and Deandre Ayton with 20. Utah had an 11-point lead in the second quarter, but the Lakers dominated the third, scoring 37 points to open a decisive double-digit lead heading into the final quarter.
Meanwhile, the Detroit Pistons extended their longest winning streak since 2008 to 11 games with a 120-112 victory over the Atlanta Hawks, ending Atlanta’s five-game streak. Cade Cunningham led the way with 25 points and 10 assists, while Jalen Duren contributed 24 points and eight rebounds. Jalen Johnson paced Atlanta with 25 points, nine rebounds, and eight assists.
In Brooklyn, the Boston Celtics defeated the Nets 113-99 behind 29 points from Jaylen Brown and a 22-point, 10-rebound performance from Payton Pritchard.
The Orlando Magic topped Golden State 121-113, with Desmond Bane scoring 23 points and reserve Anthony Black adding 21. Stephen Curry led the Warriors with 34 points, and Jimmy Butler added 33 for the losing side.
In San Antonio, the Spurs overcame the Memphis Grizzlies 111-101 despite missing star big man Victor Wembanyama (calf) and guard Stephon Castle (hip flexor). De’Aaron Fox scored 20 of his 26 points in the second half, while Harrison Barnes added 23, including the first seven points of an 11-0 run to close the game.
Barnes said, “We’re trying to do this as a collective. There’s no replacing Vic. We’re just trying to find ways to win, share the ball, move the ball, that’s how we’ll do that.” Fox added, “Harrison Barnes carried us through this. That’s just what a vet does… We have a team and we know that when one guy goes down, we have a number of guys who can step up.”
Off the injury front, ESPN reported that Giannis Antetokounmpo will miss the next one to two weeks due to a left groin strain suffered in Monday’s loss to Cleveland.
