NBA postpones Bulls-Heat matchup because of floor moisture

The Chicago Bulls’ home game against the Miami Heat on Thursday was postponed due to an unplayable court at the United Center.
In a statement, the NBA said the game had been called off “due to moisture on the floor rendering the court unplayable.” Tip-off had initially been delayed before the decision to postpone the fixture was made. A new date for the matchup will be announced in due course.
The United Center is also home to the NHL’s Chicago Blackhawks, who played at the arena on Wednesday and have another game scheduled for Friday. The presence of ice hockey in the venue is believed to have contributed to the moisture issue.
While postponements in the NBA due to unplayable court conditions are rare, they are not unprecedented. In 2016, a Sacramento Kings–Philadelphia 76ers game was postponed after condensation from the ice rink beneath the court made the surface slippery. Similarly, in 2017, the Minnesota Timberwolves had to delay a home game against the Portland Trail Blazers at the Target Center following a hockey game and a “Disney on Ice” show, which left the floor unsafe for play.
