Sacramento Kings guard Dennis Schröder has been suspended for three games by the NBA after “confronting and attempting to strike another player,” the league announced on Saturday.

According to an official NBA statement, the incident took place approximately 40 minutes after the Kings’ 125-101 defeat to the Los Angeles Lakers on December 28 at Crypto.com Arena. The league said Schröder sought out the opposing player in an arena hallway and instigated the confrontation.

While the NBA did not publicly name the other player involved, multiple US media reports identified Dallas Mavericks star Luka Dončić, with whom Schröder had exchanged heated words during the game.

The Germany international will begin serving his suspension on Sunday when Sacramento host the Houston Rockets. He is also set to miss a rematch against the Lakers and a road game versus the New York Knicks.

Schröder, 32, has featured in 31 games this season, averaging 13.0 points, 5.7 assists and 3.3 rebounds per contest.
