Mohamed Salah scored as Liverpool advanced to the fifth round of the FA Cup with a comfortable 3-0 victory over Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday.

Brighton, who had defeated Manchester United in the third round, have struggled in recent weeks and were outclassed by a Liverpool side in strong form at Anfield.

Due to a string of defensive injuries, Curtis Jones was deployed in an unusual right-back role but made a decisive impact, bursting into the box to finish Milos Kerkez’s cross and give Liverpool an early lead.

Salah, who has had a quiet season up until now, provided a second-half boost with a goal and an assist. His cushioned pass set up Dominik Szoboszlai to fire in Liverpool’s second, before Salah converted a penalty to notch his 252nd goal for the club and seal the 3-0 win.

Elsewhere in the FA Cup fourth round, Sandro Tonali scored twice as Newcastle United came from behind to beat 10-man Aston Villa 3-1.

Third-tier Mansfield Town caused a major upset, defeating Premier League Burnley 2-1 to reach the fifth round for the first time since 1975, while Manchester City eased past Salford City 2-0.
