Missed penalty haunts Juventus as Lecce snatch point in Turin

Jonathan David missed a club-level penalty for the first time since January 2025 as Juventus were held to a 1-1 draw by relegation-threatened Lecce at the Allianz Stadium, a result that also ended the Bianconeri’s four-match winning run in all competitions.
Juventus came into the contest unbeaten in their previous 16 competitive home matches, a run stretching back to March 2025, and they quickly showed why by asserting early control. Lecce goalkeeper Wladimiro Falcone was immediately called into action, producing two sharp saves to deny Andrea Cambiaso before reacting superbly to divert David’s close-range header onto the post.
Kenan Yildiz was at the heart of most of Juventus’ attacking play, but despite their dominance, Luciano Spalletti’s side struggled to make it count. Their profligacy was punished late in the first half when a misplaced ball from Cambiaso gifted possession to Lameck Banda, who skipped past Bremer and fired a low effort inside the near post to stun the home crowd.
Juventus responded swiftly after the interval. Just four minutes into the second half, Yildiz slipped a precise pass into Weston McKennie inside the six-yard box, allowing the American midfielder to finish calmly past Falcone and restore parity.
The hosts piled on the pressure thereafter and were handed a golden opportunity when David’s volley struck the hand of Mohamed Kaba. However, the Canadian striker’s penalty lacked conviction and was saved by Falcone, who stuck out a trailing leg to deny him down the middle.
Lecce then defended resolutely, repelling wave after wave of Juventus attacks. Late efforts from Filip Kostic and David threatened to break their resistance, but Falcone was once again equal to the task, producing a fine stop to preserve a precious point.
It marked the first time Juventus have failed to win at the Allianz Stadium since early November, a frustration Spalletti will likely attribute to his side’s wastefulness, particularly from the penalty spot. Lecce, meanwhile, can take significant encouragement from claiming their first away point against a team that began the round inside Serie A’s top 12, a result that leaves them provisionally five points clear of the relegation zone.
