Melita secured their place in the next stage of the BOV Challenge Cup after overcoming Mġarr United in their encounter played on Wednesday evening at the Victor Tedesco Stadium in Ħamrun.

The match saw both sides approach the tie with determination, knowing that progression in the cup competition was at stake. Mġarr United tried to impose themselves early on, pressing high and attempting to create openings through quick attacking moves.

Melita, however, remained organised at the back and gradually grew into the game. Their midfield controlled possession for long spells, allowing them to build attacks patiently and put pressure on the Mġarr defence.

As the match progressed, chances began to appear at both ends, with the goalkeepers called into action to keep their respective sides in the contest. Melita eventually made their pressure count, finding the breakthrough that shifted the momentum firmly in their favour.

Mġarr United attempted to respond and pushed forward in search of an equaliser, but Melita’s defensive discipline ensured that they maintained their advantage.

Despite late efforts from Mġarr United to get back into the match, Melita managed the closing stages well and held on to secure the victory, booking their place in the next round of the BOV Challenge Cup.

The result sees Melita continue their cup journey, while Mġarr United bow out after a competitive encounter in Ħamrun.
