Kalkara United’s recent acquisition Mario Jude Dominicus reached a significant personal milestone earlier this month, making his 100th senior career appearance in the Amateur League II encounter against Santa Venera Lightnings on 14 December, a thrilling 3–2 victory.

The right winger began the current campaign with Senglea Athletic, but opted to join Kalkara United on loan for the remainder of the season, becoming part of the club’s ambitious project.

Dominicus’ football journey is a compelling one. Born in Sri Lanka, he moved to Malta at a young age and was first registered with Fgura United in 2015 at just 15 years old, qualifying him as a homegrown player. After a loan spell with Marsa’s youth setup during the 2017/18 season, he joined the Luqa St Andrew’s FC academy, where he further developed his game. His senior debut came on 17 February 2019, in a Second Division league match against St George’s.

Now 26, Dominicus went on to become a mainstay at Luqa, making 92 appearances across Malta’s second and third tiers. During this spell, he enjoyed notable success, winning the Amateur League title in 2021 and securing promotion to the Challenge League two years later after Luqa finished runners-up in NAL Group B. He joined Senglea Athletic last summer, featuring in five official matches before completing his move to Kalkara.

On the international front, Dominicus received a call-up to the Sri Lanka national team in March 2024 ahead of the inaugural FIFA Series tournament in Colombo, which included matches against Bhutan and Papua New Guinea. Although an untimely injury prevented him from making his international debut, he remains firmly on the radar of the national team selectors.

His most recent outing for Kalkara against Mdina Knights marked his 101st senior appearance, bringing his career tally to 13 goals. Blessed with pace, technique and attacking flair, Dominicus is a winger capable of turning games on their head—an exciting player who, at his best, is extremely difficult to contain and a pleasure to watch.
