A Centenary Year of Excellence: 2025 marks a defining chapter for Maltese Aquatic Sports

The year 2025 represented a landmark chapter for the Aquatic Sports Association of Malta, as it celebrated its centenary while delivering a season defined by competitive success, international recognition and sustained growth across all aquatic disciplines.
A major highlight came from the Men’s Under-18 Water Polo National Team, who produced an impressive performance at the European Championships, finishing ninth overall and underlining Malta’s steady progress at youth international level.
The Men’s Senior Water Polo National Team also enjoyed a significant breakthrough, securing qualification for the 2026 European Championships. This achievement marked an important competitive milestone and reaffirmed Malta’s position among Europe’s established water polo nations.
On the organisational front, Malta successfully hosted the European Aquatics Champions League Final Four, further strengthening its reputation as a reliable and capable host of elite international water polo events.
In swimming, Maltese athletes continued to raise performance standards, setting several new national records in both long-course and short-course competitions. These results reflected increased depth, consistency and competitiveness within the discipline.
Artistic swimming also gained valuable exposure at the highest level, with Malta represented at the World Aquatics Championships, providing athletes with crucial experience on the global stage.
Across all aquatic sports, youth and junior national teams recorded improved results, highlighting the impact of structured development programmes and long-term athlete pathways. Increased international participation further enhanced competitive maturity and resilience among Maltese athletes.
Strategic investment in organisational structures and the delivery of high-quality events contributed to elevating Malta’s standing within the European aquatic community.
