Manchester United eye potential signing of Atalanta’s Ederson at reduced fee

Manchester United have been alerted to the potential availability of Atalanta midfielder Ederson and are assessing whether a move in January could be feasible.
The Red Devils see Ederson as a midfielder capable of enhancing Bruno Fernandes’ performances, and interest from the player’s camp has not gone unnoticed—especially at a time when quality midfield options are limited.
Reports suggest Ederson’s agent has indicated the Brazilian could be available for under €40 million this January, a figure considerably lower than what United faced when exploring a deal last year. This has sparked fresh speculation about a renewed pursuit.
However, sources remain cautious about the likelihood of a mid-season transfer. Internal discussions reportedly took place a month ago, concluding that Ederson was off-limits until the summer—a position that may have prompted the agent’s recent comments.
There is also skepticism over the suggested fee. With comparable midfielders regularly commanding more than €40 million, the prospect of a bargain deal is seen by some as optimistic at best.
While a potential move is clearly under consideration, the situation appears more complex than the public narrative suggests.
