A defining moment of 2025 came in international football, when the Malta men’s national team achieved a historic 1–0 away victory against Finland in Helsinki. It was Malta’s first competitive away win in over a decade, and a result that symbolised the progress made by the national side.

The victory helped Malta enjoy one of its most productive qualifying campaigns in recent years, matching a national record points tally and, importantly, avoiding a bottom-place finish in the group. The result was widely regarded as a turning point in the team’s competitive mentality and belief.
