A special celebratory event was held on Saturday evening at the National Football Centre (NFC) to mark the 125th anniversary of the Malta Football Association, bringing together member clubs and football associations for a memorable occasion.

The event formed part of the closing chapter of the Malta FA’s 125th anniversary celebrations. Throughout 2025, the Association organised a wide range of initiatives to commemorate this historic milestone, including Street Football in the City, the launch of a limited-edition 125th anniversary kit, football and futsal festivals, and the Malta FA Jubilee Cup, which concluded just days ago.

One of the standout moments of the anniversary year was the official inauguration of the National Football Centre in September, a landmark project that reflects the Association’s long-term vision for Maltese football.

Distinguished Guests in Attendance

Saturday’s event saw the NFC once again open its doors to a number of distinguished guests, including Minister for Home Affairs, Security and Employment Byron Camilleri, Malta Tourism Authority CEO Carlo Micallef, as well as representatives from the National Development and Social Fund and the Malta Development Bank. Member clubs and affiliated associations were also present to share in the celebrations.

Inside the National Football Centre

Guests were treated to a comprehensive guided tour of the NFC, gaining first-hand insight into the extensive facilities offered by the newly constructed centre at the Malta FA Training Grounds.

The NFC features a 400-seat Category 1 stadium that meets UEFA requirements, alongside a fully equipped medical and sports science area, player relaxation zones, administrative offices, conference facilities, and catering areas.

The stadium has already hosted several high-profile fixtures, including UEFA Women’s Under-17 and Under-19 European Championship qualifiers, as well as international friendly matches.

A Hub for Maltese Football Development

Beyond matchday use, the NFC serves as the central hub for the Malta FA’s technical sector. The relocation of the Malta FA Technical Centre, together with the logistical operations of the national teams, has streamlined development pathways and enhanced day-to-day operations.

The project was made possible through funding from the Government of Malta, the National Development and Social Fund, the Malta Development Bank, Project Green, and UEFA’s Sustainable Infrastructure programme.

A Vision for the Future

The National Football Centre embodies the Malta FA’s commitment to long-term, sustainable investment in the local game. Through state-of-the-art facilities and an inspiring environment, the NFC aims to support player development, coaching education, inclusivity, and the continued growth of Maltese football at both domestic and international levels.

As the Malta FA celebrates 125 years since its foundation, the NFC stands as a lasting symbol of progress and ambition for generations to come.
