Lazio dump league-leading Milan out to book Quarter-Final place
Lazio booked their place in the Coppa Italia quarter-finals on Thursday, securing a 1-0 win over AC Milan courtesy of a late Mattia Zaccagni header.
Maurizio Sarri’s side will now face defending champions Bologna in the last eight, after Zaccagni rose to meet Nuno Tavares’ corner with just 10 minutes left at the Stadio Olimpico.
The decisive goal ended Milan’s unbeaten run stretching back to August—when they last lost to Cremonese—and leaves Massimiliano Allegri’s team focused on their Serie A title push and a bid for the Italian Super Cup.
Milan currently top the Serie A table on goal difference ahead of Napoli, who themselves moved into the Coppa Italia quarter-finals on Wednesday by defeating Cagliari.
Bologna also kept their trophy defence alive earlier in the evening, seeing off Parma 2-1 thanks to Santiago Castro’s dramatic 89th-minute winner.
The round of 16 will conclude in January, with Roma hosting Torino and Fiorentina welcoming Como to determine the final two quarter-final berths.
