Kurt Shaw returns to Hibernians following departure from Sorrento

Malta international defender Kurt Shaw has officially rejoined Hibernians after a short stint with Italian Serie C side Sorrento came to an end this week.
The 26-year-old centre-back had fulfilled a lifelong ambition by moving to Italy last summer. However, despite a memorable highlights—including a stunning winning goal against Foggia in January—Shaw struggled for consistent first-team appearances. Following the mutual termination of his contract, he sought to remain in Italy and held discussions with two other clubs.
The proposed moves failed to materialize, and with Sorrento having already secured replacements, Shaw found himself as a free agent. He subsequently agreed to personal terms with his former club, Hibernians, where he previously spent three successful seasons.
Impact for the Paolites
Hibernians head coach Branko Nisevic confirmed the defender’s return during a pre-match press conference. Nisevic hailed Shaw as a “great addition” to the squad, noting his previous experience and familiarity with the club’s environment.
Shaw has been cleared for immediate selection and is expected to feature in the upcoming derby against Tarxien Rainbows scheduled for Saturday, 7 February 2026. His return provides a significant boost to the Hibernians’ defensive options as they continue their campaign in the Maltese Premier League.
