Kane reaches 500 career goals as Bayern defeat Werder Bremen to reopen Bundesliga lead

Werder Bremen’s winless Bundesliga run stretched to 12 matches after a comprehensive 3-0 defeat to league leaders Bayern Munich, who also extended their own impressive sequence by avoiding defeat in a 20th successive top-flight away game.
Following Borussia Dortmund’s emphatic victory on Friday night, there was added pressure on Bayern to restore their six-point cushion at the summit. It is a scenario Vincent Kompany’s side have grown accustomed to handling during his near two-season tenure, and they began in assertive fashion, quickly translating early dominance into a breakthrough.
The opener came from the penalty spot after Lennart Karl weaved into the area and was brought down by Niklas Stark. Harry Kane stepped up and confidently dispatched his effort, marking his 14th successful spot-kick of the campaign.
Kane was at it again just three minutes later, and this time there was nothing routine about it. Reacting sharply to a loose ball on the edge of the box, he took a steadying touch before rifling a precise strike into the corner. The goal not only doubled Bayern’s advantage but also represented the 500th of his illustrious career.
Faced with a daunting two-goal deficit, Bremen nearly gave themselves a lifeline before the interval. Felix Agu surged through the heart of Bayern’s defence and unleashed a driven effort that flashed inches wide of the post — a reminder that the contest was not entirely without jeopardy.
With the outcome largely settled, Bayern could have eased off after the restart, yet they continued to press. Luis Diaz found himself unmarked 12 yards out but could only roll a tame effort straight at Mio Backhaus.
Any faint hopes of a comeback were extinguished 20 minutes from time when Leon Goretzka produced the standout strike of the afternoon. Collecting possession on the edge of the area, he curled a superb effort back across goal and into the top corner to make it 3-0.
From that point, the visitors were content to control possession and manage the closing stages, comfortably seeing out a victory that restored their six-point advantage at the top of the table.
For Bremen, the outlook appears increasingly bleak. They remain entrenched in the bottom three, and with their winless home league run now extending to six matches, a swift turnaround looks difficult to envisage.
