Jalen Green made a triumphant return to the court for the Phoenix Suns on Thursday, scoring 29 points in a commanding 115-102 victory over a short-handed Los Angeles Clippers.

Green, the former No. 2 overall draft pick acquired in the blockbuster trade that sent Kevin Durant to Houston, had been sidelined with a hamstring injury since training camp, missing the Suns’ first eight games.

But the 23-year-old wasted no time making an impact, hitting 10 of 20 shots from the field, including six three-pointers—a record for a Suns debut. Green also contributed three rebounds and three assists in just 23 minutes.

“It felt good to be back,” Green said after the game. “I was telling everyone on my team, I couldn’t even take my nap fully—I was so anxious to get back on the floor. It was a lot of hard work. Shout out to the training staff and everybody for helping me. I’m happy to be back out there.”

Green added that he is still working to regain his top form. “We’re still working on it,” he said. “Today was a great step. It’s a great city, great team, and hopefully there are many more wins and records to come.”

Devin Booker led the supporting cast with 24 points as the Suns, who had struggled on the road with an 0-4 record, improved to 4-1 at home.

After a back-and-forth first half with the lead changing hands 11 times, Phoenix erupted in the third quarter, scoring 40 points and making their first eight shots of the period. The Suns pushed their lead to 20 before heading into the fourth quarter up 14, eventually extending it to 25. Coach Jordan Ott rested Green and Booker with 7:14 remaining.

Ivica Zubac led the Clippers with 23 points and 11 rebounds, but the team was hampered by the absence of stars Kawhi Leonard and James Harden. Leonard sat out with a sprained right ankle, while Harden missed the game for personal reasons.

Clippers guard Bradley Beal, making his first return to Phoenix since being waived by the Suns last season, was met with boos from the crowd. Beal managed five points on two-of-14 shooting in 19 minutes, limited due to injury management.

The two teams will meet again on Saturday in Los Angeles, giving the Clippers a chance to even the score.
