Inter supporters given travel ban after flare incident, Milan derby exempt

The Italian Interior Ministry has imposed a travel ban on Inter Milan supporters following an incident during Sunday’s match against Cremonese, in which a flare thrown from the stands landed near goalkeeper Emil Audero.
The ban, which will remain in place until March 23, restricts Inter fans from travelling to away matches and also prohibits the sale of tickets to residents of Lombardy for the club’s upcoming league fixtures against Sassuolo, Lecce and Fiorentina.
However, the Milan derby against AC Milan on March 8 has been exempted from the restrictions. The ministry explained that the fixture does not involve large-scale fan travel and therefore does not pose the same security concerns.
In a statement, the Interior Ministry said the measures were introduced “to ensure public order and safety and to prevent the recurrence of incidents that could compromise the smooth running of sporting events.”
Inter, who currently hold an eight-point lead at the top of Serie A, are next in action on Sunday when they travel to face Sassuolo.
