The Malta national football team has suffered a setback ahead of their upcoming European qualifying matches against Finland (away) and Poland (home), with forward Kemar Reid ruled out through injury.

Reid, who represents Birkirkara F.C., sustained the injury during training and will not be part of the squad departing today.

Head coach Emilio De Leo has called up Andrea Zammit of Valletta F.C. as Reid’s replacement — a move that earns the 22-year-old striker his first senior national team call-up.

Born on April 5, 2003, Zammit is a promising centre-forward who has impressed for Valletta in domestic competition.

The national team will first travel to Rome for a short two-day training camp before heading to Finland on Wednesday, where they will begin preparations for the first of the two crucial qualifiers.
