The Manchester City vs Nottingham Forest clash proved pivotal at both ends of the Premier League table, with implications for the title race and relegation battle.

Tricky task for Forest
City arrived on a six-match unbeaten run at home and having lost just once in the league this season, while Forest, under caretaker Vitor Pereira, were winless in their previous five matches following a defeat at Brighton & Hove Albion. Pereira left out Omari Hutchinson, who scored in Forest’s 2–1 defeat to City earlier in the season, aiming to disrupt Guardiola’s pursuit of another league title.

For City, Phil Foden made his 118th home league appearance, moving level with Yaya Toure for 10th most at the club, while Bernardo Silva marked his 350th start for City across all competitions, the first outfield player to reach that milestone under Guardiola, only behind Ederson.

Forest show intent
The visitors immediately signaled their intent with three shots inside the opening two minutes, but City dominated possession with 75% in the first 15 minutes. Silva and Foden tested Forest repeatedly, while Elliot Anderson led the defensive effort, winning 11 of his 21 duels in the first half.

Semenyo opens the scoring
City’s pressure paid off when Antoine Semenyo volleyed home the opener, assisted by Rayan Cherki, who dragged three Forest defenders with him. Semenyo’s contribution since joining City in January is notable: seven goals and two assists in the Premier League, second only to Viktor Gyokeres in goal involvements among players debuting this season.

Forest’s passing game, led by Ibrahim Sangare with a 92.3% completion rate, kept them competitive in midfield, supported by Nicolas Dominguez in duels and regaining possession.

Gibbs-White levels
The second half began in City’s rhythm, but Forest struck first. Morgan Gibbs-White scored with an inventive backheel, his eighth goal of the season, against the run of play. City kept up the pressure, Silva registering 11 touches inside Forest’s box, but defenders Murillo and Jair Cunha held firm.

Rodri restores City lead, Anderson equalises
Just past the hour, Rodri headed in a corner to give City the lead, only for Elliot Anderson to equalise with a stunning strike, his first league goal since May 19, 2024. The goal silenced the Etihad and left Guardiola visibly frustrated.

Scrappy finish and implications
Despite dominating with 774 passes, 21 shots, and 14 successful dribbles, City couldn’t secure the win. Semenyo hit the woodwork late, and Murillo cleared a last-ditch effort from Savinho off the line.

The 2–2 draw hands Arsenal a seven-point lead at the top, strengthening their advantage in the title race, while Forest secure a vital point in their battle to avoid relegation.
