Gobert handed one-game suspension after latest flagrant foul for Minnesota

Rudy Gobert will miss the Minnesota Timberwolves’ next game after receiving a one-game suspension following another flagrant foul, the NBA announced on Saturday.
The Timberwolves center was assessed a flagrant one foul in the second quarter of Friday’s game against the Dallas Mavericks after hitting Marvin Bagley III in the face with his forearm while contesting a rebound. The play was initially called a common foul, but league officials upgraded it after review, citing an “unnecessary flail” with Gobert’s arm.
This marks Gobert’s second suspension of the season. He previously missed a game in January after reaching six flagrant foul points. Under NBA rules, any player who has already been suspended for exceeding five flagrant foul points will face an automatic suspension for any subsequent flagrant.
Gobert maintained after the game that the contact was accidental and hoped the league would overturn the call. Both he and Timberwolves head coach Chris Finch suggested that Gobert has been officiated inconsistently.
“Seemingly every time Rudy gets clocked in the head and the face, which is quite a bit, it’s always just, ‘Ah that’s just two guys, play on. It’s nothing,’” Finch said. “But yet the other way around, we seem to be penalized for it.”
The suspension will see Gobert sit out Sunday’s matchup against the Philadelphia 76ers.
